Well yesterday was a historic day for the cyclist blog. I have now complete a total of one hundred posts. Changes of Management in Rabobank

In response to the firing of their Tour de France leader Michael Rasmussen during this years tour de France has lead the sponsor Rabobank to create changes in their teams medical requirements. This has stemmed from the controversy of Michael Rasmussen lying of his where abouts during a team drug test. During this time he is suspected to be doping which had caused him to have a positive test during his stay in the yellow jersey. Rabobank has just placed their director of private banking, Harold Knebel in charge of all operations of the cycling team. It seems to be a blame games within the team of who is to blame. Rasmussen has said that the team director De Rooy and Breukink the sport director were aware of his where abouts. Whom ever is to blame it doesn’t matter something was illegal done and the result was that the person of which who made the choice to gain an unfair advantage was fired. In the end I feel as if Rabobank is trying to redirect the team and clean up is tarnished image.

Rasmussen the liar

Well last week Michael Rasmussen confirmed the statement made by Italian Davide Cassani that he had reportedly saw him in Italy when Rasmussen said he was in Mexico to his Team. This was a major mistake it was during the same time as out of competition drug test. This all leaked out at the height of this years tour de France. Rasmussen was holding the yellow jersey at the time and was fired for his lie. Rabobank now complete supports the decision that was made by the team to release Rasmussen even though he was in the major contention to win the race. I’m glad to see this myself it just shows the steps to clean up cycling. Even though they don’t exactly know what Rasmussen was doing in Italy (it could be doping related) but the major fact is he reluctantly missed a drug test which only leads to suspicion.

New Tour de France Route Released

With the new route released this year there came some major changes. The first of which is that the opening time trail (prologue). It will be starting in French region Brittany. This will be the first time is starts in a region not in a city. The time trial will also be shortened and there will be four summit finishes in the mountain stages. Thats all I got right now for you. It is getting harder to find things to post on because the season is slowing down. Sorry for the super short entry.

Basso already tring to obtain contracts?

Even after being ban from the sport for two years the Italian Ivan Basso a midst contract negotiations. According to velonews.com the riders is trying to get a contract for the 2009 season. His suspension will end on the 24 of October a year from now. This does not suprise me though after being such a dominate rider that the suspension has only effected his career slightly. Yes, I kno his reputation is shattered but he is still in demand. Supposivley he has remained on his training routine and will return to the sport in his normal shape. Plus he is still young enough to make a comeback, he is only 29 years of age.

Well without the Powerhouse team discovery representing American this year in the tour I will turn my attention to another team (otherthan my favorite CSC). So basicly with this seasons new aquisitions for team slipstream they might be able to win a spot in the TDF. They picked up some big names this year and I has given me some high hopes especially after what happened last year with the youngster Alberto winning it. So as of today I am gonna start a bandwagon to follow Team Slipstream into the Tour de France. Lets all jump aboard and root them on!!

Well since my loss of computer access to update the blog I was unable to update you all on Landis. You all heard of the ruling for sure if not he was found guilty of using testosterone. This doesn’t surprise me. I was so obvious, he made a miracle of a comeback in the mountains. It was un-human. Come on, we all new this was going to be the out come and congrats to Oscar Pereiro on the very late victory. What I find even more idiotic is the fact that Floyd is appealing the decision. He was caught he should just give up and wait out his 2 year ban. He should just follow that path of his fellow American Tyler Hamilton. What is this world becoming. We need to clean this sport up. I know everyone wants that competitive edge but that makes the sport less interesting when someone is just that dominate. Lets all just keep it fair.

Will the new line up for Team Astana create a dominate team next year?

Well I am glad to say your favorite cyclist blogger is back. Over the past two months I have experienced many computer problems and was unable to post. Now I have switched to a better server and now I’m back. Enough of my excuses I got some major news. The all new redesign team Astana. Will they be the team to take over the domination that the US Postal Service/Team Discovery once had? I believe they will. After having a rough year this year, losing their co-captian Vino and being expelled form the TDF, they have made some key aquisitions. Recently they picked up the seven time TDF manager Johan Bruyneel who will turn this team around. They also pick up Alberto Contador this year’s TDF winner and his 3rd placed teammate Levi Leipheimer. Not only is this a major addition to the team they still have the power house Andreas Kloden. So leading into next season will be interested seeing who will become the team captian and lead this team to victory.

Well I am very sorry my readers for my extended absence. I was on some trips that took me up to northern Michigan. But I am home now and am ready to update you’ll. Well some more threatening news has occurred for a rider involving doping allegations. This time though the target was the 2006 UCI pro tour Champion was in the line of fire. Alejandro Valverde has been banned from taking part in the World Championship next month in Stuttgart, Germany. This is all due to his name appearing in multiple places in operacion puerto. Hes not the first rider to be affected this year from this investigation from two years ago. Earlier in the season Ivan Basso was fired from Team Discovery due to his involvement. Once again a big name has been associated with doping.

Canyon Bikes?

Once again I have found a all new bike producer. This time its a pro sponsor of a cat-1 team, Unibet.com. They produce 3 road bikes and a large assortment of mountain bikes. The mountain bikes are what really impressed me though. They are very similar geometry of treks and other such bikes. Not only was I impressed by these bikes but so were my coworkers. Sorry I was unable to update you yesterday this month has been very hectic lately. I have found very little time to write but I can today. So today was the sixth stage of the Tour of Germany. T-Mobiles Gerald Ciolek has taken a second win for the the past two days. While Ciolek is winning Jens Viogt is defending is overall lead. He has kept a strong 33 second lead over second place and will most likely retain it heading into tomorrows 33.1 kilometer time trail. But as always heres some results a little shorted up like usual.
